Rigorous research in the 1980s established scientifically the benefits of personal writing, but numberless people through the ages have discovered for themselves that keeping a personal journal is an effective way of managing stress, living life more fully and discovering who they are.
Drawing on 30 years experience of keeping a personal journal as well as other forms of writing, I will guide the class through some of the ways of keeping a journal which can make journal writing a deeper and more productive practice, while learning to avoid some common pitfalls.
Remaining within the framework of the personal journal, we will also look at how writing poetry and fictional accounts can offer new angles and perspectives.
